UNICAL LECTURER'S KIDNAPPERS DEMAND RANSOM

KIDNAPPERS of the University of
Calabar staff have demanded N60
million as ransom from the family
members.
Two staff of UNICAL, Mrs Ndifon and
Dr. David Ini Ama (nurse and medical
doctor) respectively with UCTH as
well as the little daughter of Mrs
Ndifon were, on Monday, abducted by
gunmen.
The kidnappers were said to have
stormed the university staff quarters
in a speedboat, opened fire and later
whisked away their victims through the
Obufa Esuk River adjoining the staff
quarters at about 8.00pm.
But 48 hours after, the abductors
demanded N60 million before the three
of them could be released.
Investigations by Daily Sun revealed
that the kidnappers called yesterday
demanding that each of the two
families should pay N30 million as
ransom to secure their release.
Condemning the act, Chairman of
Nigeria Medical Association (NMA),
University of Calabar branch, Dr.
Offiong Ikpeme, described the
abduction, as barbaric and wondered
why doctors whose responsibility was to
save life had become targets of
kidnappers.
Ikpeme told newsmen in her office
yesterday that NMA would meet other
affiliate unions in the hospital and
the university to find a way of getting
their members out from the
kidnappers’ den.
She said if all entreaties failed, the
NMA and other unions might be forced
to down tools to protest the assault
on their members, disclosing that three
of their colleagues had already got
threat messages to be kidnapped if
they don’t cooperate.
The chairman said: “We condemn
strongly the kidnapping of our
colleagues and a little daughter by
hoodlums. We got information that Dr.
David was shot on the foot before
they took him away. This is worrisome
because we are afraid of his health
situation.”

Chaiii naija..... Man sentenced to 18 months in prison for stealing peppersoup and palm wine

An Akure Chief Magistrates’ Court on Monday
sentenced a 31-year-old man, Ayodele Joseph, to
18 months imprisonment for house breaking and
stealing pepper soup meat and palm wine worth
N2,600.
The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Olayinka Omole,
however gave the convict an option to pay a fine
of N15,000 on the two count charges.
Omole sentenced the convict to six months
imprisonment or N5,000 fine for stealing and one
year imprisonment or option of N10,000 for
housebreaking.
 The Prosecutor, Corporal Adebiyi Abiodun, had
told the court that the convict broke into the
house of Kemisola Ibitoye and stole pepper soup
meat valued at N1,900.
Abiodun said other items stolen by the convict
were palm wine valued at N700 and some black
wood hot drink and Regal gin valued at N2,000.
The prosecutor said the offence contravened
Sections 413(1) and 390(9) of the Criminal Code
Cap 37 Vol. 1 Laws of Ondo State of Nigeria,
2006.
Joseph pleaded guilty and begged for mercy,
saying, “I do not have parents, I will not indulge
in such act again”.

UPDATE:
The residence of singing duo PSquare was
sealed by sheriffs from the Lagos High Court
and FSARS on Friday, February 19.
The heavily armed officers stormed the
artists’ home, Squareville, located at Ojodu
Berger, very early in the morning with a
court order, based on allegations of fraud
filed against the duo, to seize the
property. When they were refused entry by
the gateman, the police forced their way in
injuring one of the security guards.

While Naij.com was at the scene, one half of
the singing duo, Paul Okoye, was spotted
driving, unhindered, out of the compound. He
returned at about 11:10 a.m.
Speaking with witnesses, Naij.com gathered
that the Okoye brothers: Paul, Peter and
Jude, were paid over N8m in January to
perform at a show but failed to turn up.
Another source revealed that eight to nine
years ago PSquare was paid about N1m for
a show in Benin. The duo were at the venue
on the agreed date but the event was
postponed to the next day. The artists
refused to stay to perform and returned to
Lagos. The organizer of the show demanded
his money back but was not refunded
and ever since, the case has been in court.

When news broke of the police presence at
the singers’ home, some members of the
public speculated that it was in connection
with the ongoing feud among the brothers,
which has played out on social media since
the beginning of the week.
Meanwhile, Paul, on social media, asked
fans to ignore reports of a fire outbreak.
He said: “Please, ignore the rumours that our
house is on fire. People sha… GOD forbid,
there was a situation in our Neighborhood
early dis morning and our attention was
needed and my People called me as early as
5:00am. So I had to drive from island to
intervene.”

The brothers have been at loggerheads over
a planned change of management. Paul’s
twin, Peter, had gone on Twitter to accuse
their elder brother, producer and manager,
Jude, of mismanaging the group.
He warned that anyone who entered into
dealings with Jude in the name of PSquare
was doing so at their own risk. Jude, on the
other hand, tweeted at a concerned fan that
Peter was going through some issues and
needed prayers. Paul sided with their elder
brother, criticising his twin for taking the
‘family matter’ to the public space.
A reliable source, this morning, told Naij.com
that it was an ‘open secret’ that Squareville,
where the brothers all lived together and
owned, now belonged to just Paul and Jude.

song. It was promptly taken down.

This was a brief spat in Nollywood. So Chioma
Akpotha made a comment about a picture of

Even though there had been rumors here and there that the famous twin duo have parted ways, Peter laid that to rest in his series of tweets. According to him, he has an issue with the management and not his twin brother, Paul.

Old woman with Dementia found wandering on the streets of Calabar yet to be identified (See Photos)

A Facebook user, Ray Ugba Morphy
found the wandering, disoriented old
woman who is possibly suffering from
dementia, on the streets of Calabar on
Friday, February 12. According to Mr
Morphy, she doesn’t remember her
name or those of her family members.
“She only recalls that she is a native of
Ikot Abasi! She probably stepped out
of the house and can’t find her way
back. Obviously, her people would be
looking for her. Please help share her
pictures until someone can recognise
her and come for her. We need to get
her home to her family. Much thanks
for sharing and do keep sharing”
Morphy said.
“She was too weak to even spoon feed
herself. Had to first give her water
and then give her a few spoonfuls b4
she gained enough strength to handle
the spoon by herself” he added in a
later post.
Unfortunately, at the moment nobody
has come forward to identify her. She
was taken to an old people’s home run
by the Catholic Church in Calabar, an
update posted by Morphy on Friday
disclosed.
“Thanks all for your support in the
effort to find the relations of this old
lady! We had well over 500 shares
which shows that we Nigerians, we
truly care for one another. However,
nobody has come for her so far to
claim her, so I have just checked her
into the old people’s home run by the
Catholic Church at Target in Calabar”.
Any of her relations or anyone who
wants to help can and find her now
easily at that home! However, I
wonder why it is only the Catholic
Church that runs old people’s homes

The local car manufacturers, Innoson motors
cars were spotted at the senate car park of
the National Assembly on Monday, February
15.
The cars spotted at the car park were six in
number which include a jeep, a van and
other salon vehicles.
At the Made in Aba trade fair which took
place at Area 11, Garki Abuja on Monday,
February 8, Cornel Osigwe, the Spokesman
of Innoson Motors revealed that the
company would try to get the National
Assembly to acquire its cars as its official
car.
“Government’s recognition of Innoson and the
likes, will act as an endorsement for the
brand.
“It can also boost patronage from Nigeria and
other African countries,” he said.
The patronage granted by the National
Assembly is to promote locally made
products in Nigeria as part of plans to
diversify the economy.
The trade fair was facilitated by Senator
Ehinnaya Abaribe representing Abia south
senatorial district, who Saraki eulogised for
his foresight in organising the event.

OMG!!! MAD MAN CAUGHT WITH 22 ATM CARDS + OTHER VALUABLES

The operatives of the Rapid Response Squad
(RRS) of the Lagos State Police Command
have arrested a man claiming to be insane in
possession of 22 ATM credit cards, 2 mobile
phones and power bank in Victoria Island area
of Lagos, Southwest Nigeria.
The man, Lanrewaju Jaiyeola, 39, was
intercepted by the operatives where he was
sighted in a suspicious manner carrying a
backpack on Ozumba Nbadiwe Road.
According to one of the police officers who
arrested Jaiyeola, “when we sighted him, he
appeared like a mentally sick man but we
invited him for interrogation, he answered and
responded normal to all our enquiries.
“Afterwards, he started straying from the
normal course of our enquiries. This raised
further curiosity and we decided to check out
his backpack. What we found was startling; 22
assorted credit cards, 1 Nokia phone with flat
battery, a blackberry, a power bank, several
bank tellers of recent bank transactions, and
lots of invoices amidst numerous pieces of
papers.
“On further scrutiny, we discovered that eight
of the credit cards were still valid. Out of
these; three would expire in 2018, another
three would expire in 2017 while two would
expire in 2016. All the credit cards bore
different names and banks.”
Upon arrival at the RRS Headquarters in
Alausa, the suspect made “statements
suggestive of somebody disguising as a mad
man to perpetrate crime around that axis.
“Initially, we noticed that he was mentally
balanced because he was answering the
questions posted to him adequately. But all of
a sudden, he started to sound incoherent and
illogical again,” the officer explained.
The police said that there is still more to what
they had discovered from the supposed mad
man.
While interrogating him, he threatened the
investigative police officer, saying “I will make
life unbearable for you if you don’t let me go.
It was at this point we realised that possibly
he might be enjoying the patronage of some
highly placed people whom we believe he
might working for,” the officer added.
It was further learnt that the suspect was on
the watch of the police for about two weeks
before he was arrested on Wednesday.
The suspect has been transferred to Special
Anti-Robbery Squad where he is expected to
be subjected to further investigations and
psychiatric examinations.

Boko Haram: Cameroon soldiers engage jihadists, kill 27

– Cameroon soldiers engaged Boko Haram
fighters in a fierce battled
– The troops killed 27 terrorists while 7
soldiers had various degrees injury
Emerging reports suggests that a bloody
clash which took place in Goshi town has led
to the death of 27 jihadist.
The Associated Press reports that Cameroon
soldiers killed at least 27 Boko Haram
fighters after launching a cross-border
operation in the Nigerian locality of Goshi
that also resulted in the death of one soldier,
a senior military official said.
At least seven other soldiers were injured in
the operation early Thursday, said Gen
Jacob Kodji.
Kodji said the Nigerian Islamic extremist
group launched a series of attacks in
Cameroon earlier this week.
“At least 27 Boko Haram fighters were killed in
Thursday morning’s operation,” said the
commander of Cameroon troops in the area.
The soldiers remain on the battle front there,
he added.
Ashigashiya straddles the order of northern
Cameroon and Nigeria. Regional forces from
both countries have since December 2015
been launching raids on Boko Haram
strongholds along their boarders.
It will be recalled that six people were killed
in Cameroon on Wednesday, February 10,
following a double suicide attack in the
village of Nguetchewe, which lies close to
the border.

Woman walks into police station to report rape attack clutching suspect's sex organ

A 32 year old woman walked into a police
station claiming to have been raped - clutching
her alleged attackers pen*s. The woman told
officers she had been repeatedly raped by her
brother-in-law for days.
She alleged on the final occasion, she faked
consent and sliced off his genitals with a sickle,
the Times of India reported.
She presented stunned authorities with the
bloodied organ claiming it was the only way she
could stop the attacks .
Police rushed to a house in the Churhat area in
Sidhi district at around 6am on Thursday.
But before any medical help could be
administered, they found the suspect had
committed suicide.
The woman told officers her husband works in
Nashik and she was living with her-brother-in-
law.
"When he forced himself on me, I faked
consent and severed his privates with a
sickle," she reportedly told police.
The man's body was found hanging from a tree
near the house. The woman was arrested on
suspicion of attempted murder.
Sidhi SP Abid Khan told the paper: "This is a
rare case and has to be investigated for a
proper charge sheet."
Police said the woman is mentally stable and
has no regrets to what she has done.
